Lilies of the Field

One of my favorite flowers is a lily. A lily is a tall and hardy annual flower that comes in various colors. Mine are orange tiger lilies that are beautifully blooming in my yard this time of year. I chose orange, as it happens to be the same color as Baltimore Orioles team’s colors.

But mostly I like them, because of the fact that God mentions these flowers in the Bible. The first time lilies are mentioned is in the verse Matthew 6:34 Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. The exact same verse is mentioned a second time in Luke 12:27.

We know when God repeats Himself it must be important. So by reading the two chapters the message God is explaining is the following:

  • Your beautiful and special to Jesus.
  • Do not be anxious about anything.
  • God will provide exactly what you need.
