Family Traditions

Do you have any special family traditions? Once a year our families get together in MD to catch up with each other. Everyone is asked to bring something to eat or drink. For us, it is a great day spent on the water boating, fishing, and tubing.

Our family loves eating blue shelled crabs, corn on the cob, crab soup, which must be made using Old Bay Seasoning, along with other bbq and dessert items. The older generation teaches the youngins how to safely open, properly clean and eat crabs. There nothing funnier than to watch kids and adults bang away using crab mallets just to get to the yummy delicious crabmeat.

Another tradition placed upon us at an early age was to root and watch the Baltimore Orioles & Ravens sports teams play. Unfortunately, the O’s are in the basement this year, but God forbid you to show up with a Yankee shirt on.

The idea of family reunions was started by our grandparents, we continue on this tradition as a way to honor them.

Today’s families dynamics have certainly have changed over the years, but most of all we remain true to each other and to God.

Here are Bible verses on the importance of family:

  • Colossians 3:3 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
  • Psalm 103:17&18 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.
  • Romans 15:5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,

No matter what your family dynamics are, I am praying that you are able to share the love of Christ with your loved ones.

ps. A special Thank You goes out to the Salty Dog Crab House for supplying crabs and corn each year.
