You shall not make idols for yourselves or erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the Lord your God – Leviticus 26:1.
I understand why people want to take certain statues and flags down, but unless hatred is removed from within people’s hearts and minds, it won’t change anything. Some see statues or portraits as just art, when they are a true rendition of a major historical event that occurred in America. Are we going to change history books next? Are we going to destroy Mount Rushmore to appease some of society? Why are we trying to erase the fact that racism existed. Yes, racism is wrong. But if we erase racism from history, then how will others learn not to do it in the first place?
We taken God out of everything, so we just erase our sin by removing symbols of it? Instead, we should be asking for forgiveness. We should be praying and working together for positive change, not destroying other people’s property. No one should lose their life due to violence that is occurring in our beloved cities. But the reality citizens and soldiers have died for our country and it continues to happen everyday. By removing statues no one will heal overnight. We cannot undo years of injustice in the blink of an eye or by waving of a magic wand.
God said in the Bible, that we should have no other statues before Him. The answer to racism, is Jesus plain and simple. When will people learn to hate the sin, and love the sinner. Yes, we can forgive, but unfortunately we truly never forget. Because if we forget, then we can’t truly heal and move forward. God is a Holy and Just God! We cannot erase or hide from God what racism that has and continues to occur. Our God is all knowing and bigger than any injustice or statue. I pray God’s perfect will prevails, so that we are one nation under God forevermore.
