Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding – Proverbs 17:27.
Have you ever gotten yelled at? Or yelled at someone and then realized you shouldn’t have? Or yell back at someone who upset you? Some people do not know how to control themselves. Some just don’t care what others think. Some may want to intentionally cause harm and belittle others to make themselves feel good.
While screaming might be the only way to get the person attention, but it in fact can also make the situation far worse. You could cause a knee jerk reaction and the person your are upset at could certainly retaliate.
We need to take heed to the Bible verse above, and restrain ourselves from raising our voice unless necessary. The person you are trying to communicate with will most likely respond if they see that your listening and understanding.
Granted no one is perfect, but we need to strive harder to be like Jesus. But, like the verse states with knowledge comes a calm spirit. May this devotion motivate us to stop bickering and start relating to one another’s needs. How is your spirit today?
