An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge – Proverbs 18:15.
What does FYE stand for? It refers to a college student’s First Year Experience. Another definition is being “fired up”, so I like this idea of getting students to be excited about their education. This semester I have the honor to introduce college and various educational concepts to two classes of freshmen at SUNY Ulster, an upstate NY community college.
The FYE course helps students learn where staff and different departments are located on campus. It also help to prepare them with what’s expected at college and develop good critical thinking skills that are necessary as part of their educational journey. The class exercises help students learn how to use Blackboard, a popular educational online platform for both teachers and students.
SUNY Ulster has also taken precautions to ensure the safety of their students. I am so very grateful that I was given permission to teach new freshmen remotely. The SUNY Ulster campus is in upstate NY near the Shawangunk mountains and is absolutely beautiful, especially when the trees are changing in the fall. #gosenators
