Go Catching!

Today’s Sunday service was from Luke 5, where Jesus encourages Simon Peter to follow Him. Peter was a professional fisherman and a believer. The guest pastor was Danny Hodges, from Calvary Chapel of Saint Petersburg in Florida. Another avid fisherman. He also builds churches. The verse that stood out to me was verse 10 where Jesus said, Don’t be afraid, from now on you will fish for people.

Next part of the sermon was from John 21:1 Jesus appears to His disciples. Again, Simon Peter goes fishing. Again, Peter catches nothing. With Jesus helps Peter catch and invites them to have breakfast with Him. This is the 3rd time Jesus has shown himself to the disciples after the resurrection. Jesus questions Peter, Do you love me? 3 times. Jesus responds to Peter by telling him, to feed His sheep. Jesus wants Peter to witness the church, the body of Christ.

The pastor asked us, Is your job or favorite pastime hindering you to be committed to the church? We should not hinder ourselves from serving God. We need to put God first in our life. Each of us is special to Jesus. We need to witness to everyone. We are called to take up our cross, no matter the situation, and follow Jesus. Are you catching anyone for Jesus?
