Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us – Ephesians 3:20.
This week was a week of discoveries for my art students as they learn to code by hand using HTML5. Coding can be difficult for some, as it is tedious. Figuring out errors can be frustrating at times, but it is how students learn to use the correct syntax. Yet, it is super fun to see the moment when students have the light bulb go off in their head, when their code actually works.
I have learned to step back and let students determine what they did wrong and how to go about fixing the problem by applying the right code. Programming also involves a lot of testing, so students have realized that rushing doesn’t help and frequently the tiniest mistake can cause a program to fail.
Web design continues to evolve as other new applications are created. Today’s students need to know that coding is more than just typing text on a webpage. One must discover there is a design process and various strategies that are used to build great responsive websites.
