Lesson Planning

I am very excited to start teaching at Mercy College next week. By working with other college-age students this summer, I was able to discuss the topics of cell phone usage, their preferred digital learning styles, and to make the subject interesting for them.

Today, I am working on my 15-week lesson plan. I will be teaching Technology in Action and Microsoft Office 2016 to 36 new students. I found myself asking ”What would Jesus do and say about planning?” The Lord instructs us in Proverbs 16:3 Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

I believe Jesus would also agree with the following: No one knows the future, but God. However, God instructs us to be prepared and share the gospel with others. Expect the Unexpected, as nothing goes according to your plan. Do not be afraid, because no matter what happens, because God is with you. Follow God’s plan, for He knows what is best for you.

So I am asking you to pray alongside me, that I select the right material to use for my classes and to able to communicate it effectively to my students. Please feel free to share any helpful hints with teaching college-aged students. Thanks!

Adjunct Teaching

This month I have been gearing up to teach this Fall at Mercy College. I am learning how to set up my virtual Blackboard and Pearson MyITLab. I am so excited to teach college students and help them to learn Technology in Action and MS-Office 2016.

A Special ‘Thank You’ goes out to my Professor and a few other adjunct instructors for their confidence and encouragement in me to become an Adjunct Professor, for helping me getting me acquainted with the necessary software, and for sharing about what to expect from students.

Mercy College was kind enough to send me a book called “On Course” by James Lang, which is a weekly guide for your first-semester teaching.

I am looking forward to next week’s new teacher orientation on the Dobbs Ferry Campus and the Tarrytown Training Center. I can’t wait to meet more of the staff and making a difference in the lives of students.

Teaching With Purpose

Currently, I am looking to find an additional adjunct teaching job for the Fall. Amazingly, God has been bringing the right contacts into my life to help find other possible teaching opportunities.

Recently, one of them shared about these non-profit organizations called, ”Rising Hope Inc” and ”Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison” that encourages inmates to earn their college degree while in prison. This educational opportunity is lowering the recidivism rate in local NY prisons.

The same person shared this Bible verse with me: Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

While I may not know my true purpose in life is at the moment, God does. I need only trust God, as He will direct my steps.

Pray for me, as I am considering teaching in the prison system. God says do not be afraid, but naturally fear creeps in. Yet, I know there is no reason to fear because God is always near.

God’s definition of teaching – Proverbs 6:23 For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life,

Healing and Hope

Today, I had the great privilege of visiting the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie in NY. I learned it is a place for healing and hope for children for the past 170 years. The Home provides care services for 80 children at any given time.

Program Care Services:

• Group Emergency Foster Care
• Campus Residential
• Young Mothers
• Agency Boarding Homes
• Safe Harbor
• Supervised Independent Living
• Facility Service Dogs

The Home’s social workers and staff work with families to heal and prepare children for their return to family, adoption, or independence.

Interesting Fact: On June 21, 1847, a group of Poughkeepsie women met and formed the Female Guardian Society to care for the poor, abandoned, and neglected children in their communities. Their belief was that children deserve a nurturing and caring environment.

Teaching Others

Say hello to Professor Wisor! Never did I think I become an adjunct teacher, but so far God is opening doors for me to go in this direction.

During my time on unemployment besides filling out endless applications and going on interviews, I have been helping out with different ministries at church. I also volunteer at various non-profits for causes I believe in such as:

• Hudson Valley Community Center
• Guiding Eyes for the Blind
• Unshattered Boutique
• Walter Hoving Home

By volunteering, it has helped to rebuild my confidence, work with diverse age groups, and improve my communication skills. Tutoring other’s is preparing me for when I start as an Adjunct Teacher at Mercy College this Fall.

I will be teaching students, How to use a computer along with MS-Office. While this might seem trivial to some, but computers are used everywhere no matter what subject you study. There are some who have never used one or even know how to turn one on.

Thankfully, my Dad was a genius with computers, so I naturally picked up the curiosity of wanting to use one early on. Sorry, Mom, but I am way better with a computer than a sewing machine. As I can make a computer do all sorts of things.

I am looking forward to helping others learn, so they can succeed in their education and future careers. My folks always believed in giving back, so this is what I am planning to do until God says otherwise. Pray for me that I will do well and be able to convey the course material to my future students.

A recent post that helped my decision was, “It is not about the Income, It is about the Outcome.” So I am trusting God for His provision and direction, as I start over with a new career.
