Education Matters

An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge – Proverbs 18:15.

This Fall 2022 semester starts this Monday. I will be adjuncting at three different college campuses. I will be teaching Design for the Web and Digital Toolbox at Marist College, then Fundamentals of Computers at Mount Saint Mary College, and lastly Web Design for Nonprofits along with Computers for Human Empowerment at Pace University. I am thankful for all of these colleges for being flexible to accommodate my schedule, so I can teach everyday.

One new course for me is Computer for Human Empowerment, which is a technology course with the main emphasis is on volunteering. Each student will have the opportunity to volunteer in their local community by helping a nonprofit with technology. So I am interested in seeing who they choose and how they will be helping.

Join me in praying for the safety of the students, staff, and professors, as we all return to college to have a great Fall 2022 semester. Pray for me to be patience, to shine bright for Jesus, and lastly to make a difference in my students lives. May God bless you!

The Right Decision

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment – 1 Timothy 6:6.

Have you ever wanted a certain job, but realize it just isn’t the right fit? Recently, I applied for a high school math teacher position, but quickly realized that mathematics really isn’t my passion. For me relearning three levels of high school math was like trying to fit the round peg into the square peg. Next, I also inquired about an elementary position, but unfortunately I don’t have any of the required elementary school training. Note that I am very thankful for those who prayed for me during the application process. However, I am left questioning where God wants me to serve Him the most.

While I like to get my PhD in instructional design in education, it is a very costly endeavor. In order to reach my PhD goal, God has blessed me with several courses to teach at different college campuses for the Fall 2022. The rest of my summer I will be setting my technology and web design classes. The lesson that I learned is sometimes one just has to be content with how God answers prayers and with what one has been given. Yet, I do pray that God opens the right a door for a full time job. I know that God’s timing and plan for my life is perfect. For now, I am where I am supposed to be teaching, as I will forever let my light shine for Jesus.

Summer Teaching in Prison

Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering – Hebrews 13:3 NIV.

As an adjunct professor, it is hard to find summer teaching jobs at local colleges. Because unless your tenured teacher the availability of working is slim to none. However, there is one nonprofit organization that is in need of teachers every semester throughout the year. In fact, you are almost always guaranteed to have students and less likely to the class won’t be cancelled due to low enrollment.

I find it an absolute privilege to teach for Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prisons in Ossining, NY. The incarcerated students need education, as it boosts their morale while inside. It gives the a sense of purpose to be better person while providing the necessary knowledge and technical skills to re-enter society. I challenge you to step forward to teach your major inside a local correctional facility. You will find that giving back so others can gain education is very rewarding.

In Hebrews 13:3, God reminds us to remember those in prison, so this is why, I teach there. I am super excited this summer, as I will teaching at a correctional facility both inside and remotely. The online course is a first for with them. I am very honored to be selected by Hudson Link and NY State Department of Corrections to teach this way. So pray the technology works and that the online class is a huge success, as it is the wave of the future for all.

A Prayer for Texas

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14.

Heavenly Father,

We come to you with heavy hearts on behalf of the people of Uvalde, Texas. We ask You, Father God, to comfort the families who lost a beloved one in today’s mass shooting tragedy. Continue to heal those who were injured in the attack. Give wisdom to the medical staff on how to best help them. We thank you for protecting the first responders and for being with them, as they help those who are still awaiting answers.

Help the local community to rally behind these families who are grieving the loss of their beloved child. May the families involved be able in time cherish the good times they had with their loved one and to be able to move forward with their lives. Most of all, may they know that Jesus loves them. Help these families to know that they can stand on the promises of God knowing that they will see their loved one again in heaven. Grant the families peace and understanding in the days and years ahead.

Media Theory Week 15

This is the last week for my Media Theory course. Students will continue to present their research projects. In class, we will be discussing more about the FB experiment and be analyzing quantitative stats as to how televised football games are portrayed in the media. For their final exam, each student will be writing a course reflection paper to show their understanding of course content.

Key take aways: The textbook was great at explaining key media theories and qualitative and quantitative methods used in media research. Students learned how to apply the course content by completing a research project. Overall, the class was able to comprehend how media can be manipulated to suit one’s culture, economic, or political agenda.

The students now have the knowledge how to recognize when these communication research methods are being used in media advertising. They also understand the ethical issues and global ramifications that can occur with fake news in today’s various modes of media. Thus, resulting in educated students who will seek to share scholarly truth and who are capable of communicating and understanding what is fair, honest, and balanced news media.
